FINALLY! We have some NEW photos for you to look at!
My lovely husband and I laid the floor on Friday night and then yesterday, whilst I was out working, he painted. We finished off the skirting boards last night.
Today he is doing the window sill and then our room is finished.
We are getting an electrician to pop in another tv point and double plug into the corner (bottom photo) as we originally planned for this room to have a projector, it wasn't until we moved in, we realised the room was too small to do something so grand. Haha!
Anyway hope you like them!

Posts have been very few, I apologise.
We have been somewhat busy with the house lately, but alas I have still to purchase a new card for my camera. So will endeavour to put up some 'mobile phone' pictures, they won't be great quality, but they will show (at least) what we've been up to.

Recent events, we cleaned up the gardens, weeded, moved some plants from the back garden into the front garden - by the way the plants we didn't require any longer we put on Free cycle (click the link and then join if you haven't) and they were taken the next day. The lady managed to score over 13 plants and was very happy.

So were we, as we would have felt terrible throwing away such nice plants.

We have now painted 98% of the living area, with the kitchen, dining, family and activity rooms now having been painted and skirting boards installed.
We need some more paint for the lounge (to finish off 100% paint for living areas) and also floor boards in there and skirting. Once done, we'll move onto laundry and toilet and main bathroom.

Still tossing up colours, we thought we'd found a good one with Taubmans Gusto, but it was too dark and not the 'right' green. So then whilst in Bunnings, we decided to get a sample of Taubmans Iced coffee, but alas, this was too dark also. We're thinking we could possibly go with a half tint, but it seems to have more of a pinkish/red undertone which we are not loving at the moment.
So back to the drawing board on that one!

Ok, well I will try and figure out how to do an upload direct to this blog from my phone, otherwise, will do a normal upload to computer and then to here.

More painting

We did some more painting last week when hubby was home.
I tell you what, it's AMAZING what paint can do to your mood and your home! It looks fabulous and much more 'homely' now :) We did the kitchen, dining and what you'd call the family room and also the activity room.

We still have the 'lounge' (theatre) to do, but for now that's all the paint we had. I am feverishly scouring the internet for ideas on colours for the bathroom and laundry, as we'll be moving onto those areas soon enough. Then the kids rooms.

Photos will be coming, as soon as I buy a new memory card for our camera. The old card died and I unfortunately lost almost 200 photos. Absolutely devastated...

Ok, well thought I'd update, as I haven't been on here in a while.

Pruning....

Nothing much to report on, interior-wise...still going through the motions of bills and other 'fun' things (note my sarcasm) looking for work, but hard to find something that fits into school hours, will keep trying though!

Today I pruned the rest of my kangaroo paws. I pruned the red ones a while ago, as they had all died and were looking horrible. So thanks to good old 'google' I found out how to do it.

Today it was the yellow ones turn....so now I have some really nice green leafy plants, instead of half dead pathetic looking things...hahaha!!

Have been 'googling' to try and find out what to plant now...flower-wise, as I would like some colour in the garden over Autumn and Winter. Haven't found anything yet.

If anyone still reads this and has any ideas, please feel free to message me/post a comment.

Not much else has been happening on the home front. Unfortunately everything costs money and well, we need to live! Hahahaha!!
But rest assured I am having tonnes of fun, researching carpets and blinds and light fittings :)

The tiler has yet to return, to put the new tiles in...I have had a tough week this past week and tonight had enough! So gaffer taped a plastic bag over the space where the tile was missing over the bath and I had a bath.
I feel soooo much better for it and of course the two little ones hopped in with me. Love them to bits.

Saw a crash between a bus and a car today and apparently the person passed away. :( very sad.

We were literally 2 minutes car drive from our house, but were turned away and so returned to Two Rocks and through past Sea Trees Estate and basically did a huge circle. My 6 minute drive, turned into 40 minutes.

Haven't mentioned, as I haven't been posting, but our grass out the front did a spectacular flop. Lack of water and it died...I have been out watering it every single evening for the past 4/5 weeks and it's back. Finally. I think I shall aim to have a play with the camera and take some garden photos.

Ok, well all from me this evening. Hope everyone out there reading are well. :)

I have a toddler climbing over me, so much easier to do two blog posts than to try and move the pictures around how I want them! Hahaha!

The last post, pictures are our entrance way, which has been painted in OLIVINE (by Wattyl but in Taubmans paint). We put skirting board in, the Clik type, which was purchased at Bunnings and also a window sill, which my husband cut out himself. We will be putting window sills and skirting throughout the house, as we think it finishes off things that little bit more. :)

The other photos of the bathrooms, well our showers weren't tiled according to our addenda, so finally they are being re done. YAY!! The floor tiles are supposed to carry on as a 'skirting' tile and you may notice that the rest of the bathrooms are done, but not the showers...so very odd.

Anyway the bright blue stuff is the waterproofing and sometime this week he'll be back to put the correct tiles on.

Exciting news, we have begun painting! *SQUEAL*
Hahaha!
Hubby and I had both picked out colours that 'we' thought best, could not agree and so upon entering the paint shop, which by the way was a Bristol decorator centre in Joondalup and the staff are super friendly and extrememly helpful! ANYWAY....we entered the shop for the third time and looked at the 'wall of colour' and picked a colour and said right, that's our colour.

We got a 10 litre container of paint and that was that! We sealed our walls with a plaster sealer and left that to dry for a few hours (well overnight actually as we bought the paint the following day).

Because we are still in that 'new phase' of having our own house and LOVING the ability to DO things to OUR house, things like painting and skirting boards etc, are fun. So we don't mind the painting just now, we'll see how we go. ;-)

So the entrance is painted, skirting boards in and a window sill on the front window. It looks mighty fine. I will post photos when I can, the paint we have is Taubmans and it is a silky paint that has Teflon in it. We were going to go with the more expensive Taubmans endure, but were told by the people selling us the paint, that the one we are using would be much better with 3 children...I tell you I could tell them all to wipe their hands or not touch walls a thousand times a day (and probably do) but that's not working, so the next best thing, get a paint that is 'scrubbable' hahahha!
The colour is OLIVINE, it looks sort of beige in some lights, green in other light, then brown...it is an ever changing colour...we LOVE it. It has 'warmed' the house up and makes the place look homely if that makes sense. It is going to look wonderful when it is all finished, but for now we are going slow and steady and will see what else we can get up to :-)

Tomorrow I have the plasterer coming to patch up the various settling cracks and things around the house, I also have a plumber coming around, as our ensuite shower is not externally flumed.

Hubby was up in the roof last week, looking around and discovered it. Not good when we paid extra to get both bathroom fans externally flumed!!!! Fortunately it's only the one that isn't done, so hopefully it doesn't take too long to get sorted.

Nothing much else has been happening here, rates came in, bills, life in general.

I have been occupying my time looking at furniture and paint colours....hahaha! One powerball!

Had a most upsetting day today.
Can not, or rather will not post all details on an open blog, but it has to do with a contractor our building company and rudeness!

Our building company have been FANTASTIC. I even had a phonecall from the boss to apologise for the behaviour of the contractor and will be getting someone else to finish of a job that needs to be done.

I am thankful that my husband was at home, to see the rudeness and also took a phonecall and experienced the rudeness via the phone. As I had experienced it already today and could not believe it.

As an aside, taking my children to do a Bunnings kids workshop on the weekend to do a Fathers day activity, so they are looking forward to that and also going to pop into Fired! at some point to pick up the kids creations they painted for their Dad... :)

Anyone with children (or even just adults for that matter, it's really fun!) should definately pay them a visit and get painting some bisque! Very good prices, friendly staff. I will definately be making it a regular place to go to with the kids :)

What else? Hmmm, have been looking at paint colours again, has anyone got a colour that is in the brown family, that has a green tinge to it? Open to any paint brand, as we haven't even decided on that yet!

We would like the 'main' colour throughout the house, to be somewhat similar to below, but not so....umm, pink???? It's soooo hard trying to find the right colour!!!!!

Window tinting

Forgot to mention that we got our front windows tinted - just the bedroom and front entrance windows. Our house is north facing and the sun heats up the bedroom and we're also worried about the effect the uv would have on our floor, as well as when we get blinds.

So we got that done recently, was an easy process, just measured up the panes of glass and took those measurements into tintacar they came around the following week and I am pretty sure it took them about 25/30 minutes to do both windows (well 3 panes of glass).

The difference is amazing and I am seriously thinking of getting the childrens rooms done also at a later stage. It was just shy of $240 so not a bad price and we got the darkest tint available. :)

You have to excuse the 'quality' of the last lot of photos, they were taken on my iPhone, so not terribly good AND my dog had decided to run through the sprinklers, through the mulch and then on to the alfresco, so that's the dirty marks you can see. I assure you it looks much nicer in real life :)

Landscaping

I have a secret I am keeping from my husband...*looks shiftly around* our front and rear landscaping has been started...hubby doesn't come home until next week, so he'll be very surprised when we bring him home!!!

They started today, digging trenches for the retic, they did that and then dug back over.
Some plants have been planted along the verge and also the side of the driveway, for now though they are finished.

It has been raining and raining all day and they had finally had enough (to be honest I was surprised that they had continued at it!) and would you guess?! The rain has stopped and the sun is shining! Hahaha, always the way!

They'll be back on Monday anyway, to finish off the retic (they have put the main pipes underneath just need to connect the actual sprinklers) finish putting in the plants and the turf will arrive on Tuesday! PHEW!

Hello everyone!
Apologies for the delay in putting up the finished photos, been a bit busy with Perth life and sick kids and other 'day to day' things.

Here are pics of the finished wall and some of the finished off 'top' where the garden will eventually go. We have landscaping out the front included with our land purchase, so are awaiting them to come and do that, should be in a week or two. We had to level the top, so hired a compactor, which was a great idea as the sand is soooo soft, the garden would have dropped by inches within a few months if we hadn't done it.

Husband made a wall last night in our family room which now holds the television on it, eventually the amplifier and other bits and pieces will be slotted in on the sides, so you can't really see them.

It is a bit of a change but something that we wanted to do, so we can ALMOST cross that job off the list.

I have also been calling around for quotes for the retaining wall we need out the front, but getting very frustrated with the lack of etiquette when it comes to these people keeping appointments.
Have had some just not turn up when they say they will.

So far had one quote, but obviously would like more.

The one quote we did get was quite good, but he wasn't going to help with getting the council approval (due to the wall being over 450mm in one place - it sort of starts high and then gradually 'disappears' if you understand that), soooo anyway, have found another one in the Yellow Pages (oh how I love that little yellow book!) and should have someone coming on Saturday *well fingers crossed and please cross for me* AND they do help with counil approvals. So YAY!

Anyway, much to do today!

Well we haven't really gotten much done, but I thought I would aim to put up some more pics.

My lovely husband has paved our fenced off area where the bins go, he continued the path from the driveway and it looks like it has been there all the time :) he did a great job of it!

He also put some 'trimming' on the floors, where they meet doorways, which finishes it off nicely. Obviously we still need to put some 'filler' in the other gaps and yes, skirting board eventually.

It is really nice living out here. At night you can hear the ocean crashing against the shore, yes, even from our house. It is such a nice sound and so much different to living in the bush.

Have ventured out a couple of times this past week and it hasn't been too bad. Although, the drivers here (yes I am going 'there') seem to like driving right up your bum, even though you're doing the speed limit and I am one of 'those' people that just puts the cruise control on the speed limit....hahahaha! Never had a speeding ticket and don't want one.

Long time between posts.

I apologise for the long time between posts.

We had some issues with the house and electricity. Long story short, it is all sorted now, but half our house didn't have power and the tv points were not put in (big what the?!) apparently our house had not been finished electricalwise. So why we had handover is beyond me. But like I said, it's all fixed now. :)

We are now living in our new home and it's quite nice, we have picked up on a few things (namely cosmetic) that we will have to bring up at our 6 month check, for instance our tiles in the ensuite are black and when we did pre-inspection and handover, they were dirty and smeared with grout powder etc.

Since moving in and actually cleaning them properly, I have discovered a tile with a noticeable white chip in it...looks like someone dropped something on it. And being a black tile it's all I see every time I enter my shower. LOL

Also, the door frame (??) to ensuite has considerable dents in it, which again, when doing the above you would not have noticed, as the door frame is white. It is not until you actually sit on the loo (hahaha) and 'ponder' that you notice this big dent.

My husband and I have laid the flooring to the living areas (carpet will be another few months unfortunately :-( due to funding issues...) but we have sealed the rooms with no flooring, so the dust is considerably less, which is fantastic. Coupled with our timber laminate flooring, we are super happy! :)

We flew to Perth on the morning of Thursday 28th Jan, drove up to Joondalup and stopped off at Trevors Carpets to quickly look at flooring options.

We were quite pleased and surprised to find that timber laminates (click together floorboards) have improved drastically over the past 7 years (how long we've been living out here) and are actually harder wearing, have a wider variety of colours and finishes and generally look very nice. :-)

We had the foresight to bring our plans with us, so the nice salesman copied them and priced us up for timber laminate and also carpet for the four bedrooms (theatre will be left, as we would like to put in a false floor a few steps up). All in all, the prices are well within reach for us to get the flooring done prior to moving to Perth, which is a very good thing!

Ok, so after a very quick visit there (half an hour) we headed up to our house!

As we drove up our street, the first thing I noticed was the absence of the garage door and the roller door through to the back garden. Apparently they were ordered last year and were meant to be in place, but we have been told they should be in by the 4th of February.

The house itself is very nice and we are so happy and in love with it :-) There were a few minor things that need re-doing and/or replacing which is disappointing, seeing as it is a brand new house.

Our bedroom door is on a peculiar angle and won't shut properly and has a crack where the latch is. So it will be replaced.

The soap dish in our shower has a large chip and there is a portion of grout missing from one corner of the shower.

In the kitchen, there is a scratch on our counter near the oven, which unbelievably has to be discussed with our site supervisors supervisor! Go figure.
Also our oven has a chip in it, now I wouldn't purchase a brand new oven with a chip in it for full price, so they had better come up with something good. Either replacing or money back...Again, this apparently needs to be discussed with a 'higher person' *eye roll*

I am in LOVE wth our pantry, which is HUGE, I am so looking forward to stocking that with all of my appliances and pots and pans etc.

The dining area and family room looked great.

ALL the windows in our house need attention, from the little holes for the locks, to the bigger task of having at least one whole window being replaced, due to there being a large dent at the bottom (in the metal) grrrr....

The kids bedrooms are small, but we were expecting that, as this is our first house we didn't want a HUGE house with huge mortgage LOL

The kids bathroom, well for some reason there is a CREAM coloured soap holder in their shower...another 'what were they thinking' moment for us, so that will be replaced. I am very happy with the tiling though.

The laundry and toilet are both great too.

Outside, some guttering on the side of the house near the family room will need doing again, as it is somewhat out of alignment and dented through the middle. Also some paint is missing from behind one of the downpipes.

Our driveway needs some paving re-doing, my husband is going to have to put some concrete down I think, for the edges, as they don't seem to have done that.

When I put the photos up, you won't be able to see (because my husband had been playing with the camera settings *sigh* and I didn't realise, so the outside pics are VERY bright) but our front garden area is quite high at one point, so we will need some form of retaining wall.

All in all, it was a good trip down to Perth, the kids were fantastic, but I doubt we will be doing a day trip again! It was a very rushed and hectic day!

Not long to go!!

We will be flying to Perth on Thursday 28th January to do our 'walk through' of the house. Hopefully not too much needs attention and handover should be shortly after.

Getting very excited now I can tell you!!

We have been looking online at various products and services to add to 'our home' , which is somewhat exciting and nerve-wracking all at once!!

Found a guy to do our soakwells, great price and he's available as soon as possible. So our very first 'addition' to our house will be that! OMG! Progress already! Hahahaha!

I will be taking heaps of pics when we're down there, so keep checking back on Thursday night/Friday, as I'll definately be uploading!

The house is completely locked up now, so these are 'through the window' pics from my lovely house stalker! Hahaha!

We have made our second last progress payment, so not long to go until our inspection. Due to closure over the Christmas holidays, I am doubtful anything will be done until mid Jan and then ready for our Feb 15th hand over.

Well a lot has been going on at our house in Yanchep over the past couple of weeks. I am amazed at the speed of everything.

We sent off the forms for the fencing, just to be sure they were in on time. They need to be sent at least 8 weeks before lockup and as this house is chuffing along at lightning speed, we thought we had better get them sent. I also called and spoke to the man that organises the fencing, to make sure that was ok.
That was fine and so far we have a frame of fencing along the back and right hand side of the house and a half finished fence on the left.

Plastering is on it's way, the first stage has been completed and they will be starting (or may have started already) plastering the second stage.

Windows and sliding doors are in and the front render has been done, obviously not yet coloured. Not sure when that happens.

Our 'super spy' down in Yanchep (who so kindly goes around to take photos for us) actually spoke to one of the builders and they have been told to get as much done, even try and get the house finished, before the Christmas shut down. MY GOODNESS!

Roofing has been delivered!

Well, latest news is that the Shingles have been delivered...YAY!

So hopefully soon, we will have them on the actual roof. My 'super spy' has said she will go and take some piccies on the weekend, so as soon I get them. I will post them here.

Aside from that, nothing much else to say.

I don't know about anywhere else in Australia at the moment, but we are having the most glorious weather out here. Sunshine and more sunshine, it's starting to get hot but as a seasoned resident of this small town I am used to it, so not finding it too much just yet. Already the complaints from the 'newbies' has started though. LOL
People are streaming to the pool now it has opened, which I can not believe...as I don't think it's hot enough.

Ok, best be off.

Attempting another new recipe tonight. Got to start it now. :)

Apparently it has been horrible weather down in Perth, so not too much has happened with the house. It is pretty much at plate height now, so internal walls will be going in soon.

Up here it has been , hot hot hot, we have been walking around wearing shorts and singlets and we have even had to have the air con on! Hahahaha, amazing the difference in conditions in this great state. :)

Oh my goodness, I got the best email this morning!

Apparently we have half a house! WOW, that was quick. No photos as yet, as our friend was only driving past to look at another house and was just as surprised as anyone that anything had started!

Hopefully I will have pics for you soon, but just wanted to revel in the happiness and shock of 'hearing' (reading) that news.

We have bricks!

Woohoo!
The latest installment :-) we have had a delivery of face bricks, internal bricks, frames and cement! Yay! Things should start moving along very quickly soon (well fingers crossed) all we need is brickies.

Oh it would be so exciting to actually go down and look at our little block, but photos will have to suffice. It's still super exciting seeing the photos anyway, as we never know when we will get photos so the suspense is just electric.

So for your pleasure and enjoyment, I present......our block. With stuff on it. Hahahahahaha!

Well the slab is finally finished, so hopefully the building supervisor has ordered the bricks and once they have arrived will have some brickies available for work.

I can tell that this is going to be very exciting for us, more so because we are so far away and due to our friend taking photos for us, will be just that little bit more special.

Just posting that our slab goes down this week! WOOHOO!

Ok, back now just quickly.

Firstly, we had our baby girl on July 21st, exactly one week early and oh boy was I glad that she came when she did :) We have settled into a lovely pattern here at home and the kids absolutely adore their new sister :)

Right, slab has gone down this week. YAY! A 'friend' I have met on Homeone forum has kindly popped around to the block today and taken some pics for us, she will email me when she has time and then I can post them up here. :)

Settlement

I am about to leave for our nearest 'big' town to await the birth of our third child!! How excitment!

I did however realise that I have not updated this blog in a while (or my other one for that matter) so slack! LOL

Ok, well land settlement went through wonderfully and we are now the proud owners of a sandy block in Yanchep, so happy :)

We finally received our final plans and addenda which was great as we were able to go through it together (remember I had to go to Perth on my lonesome with the kids to do Pre-start) fortunately hubby and myself are very open in our communication and everything picked was right and the electrical was all correct too! *phew*

So that has been sent back all signed and we just await the slab to go down now. We have been told that should be mid August, so a while away, but exciting all the same.

Well, this baby is due the end of July, so from Monday until the end of the month I could be a new mummy again, I will be sure to pop back in and leave the news!

Pre-start done and documents signed.....

Pre-start was about a week ago now and it was pretty straight forward.

My husband and I had a lot of time prior discussing colour choices and options for electrical fittings etc.

So myself and the children descended upon Perth. What a trip, for someone especially who hasn't driven in Perth for about 5 years now (yep has been that long!) it was especially nerve-wracking, but I soon got the hang of it!

Colours for exterior of the house :

Roof is Tarragon shingles and bricks are Midland Limestone florentine.

Render to majority of front will be Taubmans Paperbark and the feature blade wall, garage door and double front door will be Colourbond Windspray (they will use Taubmans and try and get as close as possible).

Pavers are charcoal and grey. With the charcoal being the border and grey for the main body of the driveway and also under the alfresco.

Gutters will match roof, downpipes will match as required (if on render will be coloured appropriately or against brick work etc)

Window frames/sliding doors will be Moonglow, which is a beige type colour to match the bricks. We initially wanted as dark as the roof, but rules and regs of our estate won't allow them that dark and the only colours allowed were whites or beiges...

Garage door is Centurion Georgian in windspray and the manual door to rear of garage will also be in windspray.

Bathroom/ensuite windows in Spotswood.

We have started this blog, so that you can follow us on our journey as we build our house in Yanchep, Western Australia.

We started this journey back in February 2009, after discussing future plans we decided to look into houses and possibly building a house. Well, within a couple of days, we had the ball rolling and our journey began!

Key dates :

March 28th 2009 - conditional approval from bank

May 5th 2009 - contracts signed with Aussie Living Homes

May 20th 2009 - unconditional approval from bank YAY!!

May 27th 2009 - Pre-start in Osbourne Park

June 23rd 2009 - settlement for block of land in Yanchep

August 15th 2009 - Expected slab down

February 15th 2010 - Expected completion

Hopefully some things will occur faster than anticipated.

I will be back in a few days with some photos for this blog, of our land and also colour selections.
